An experienced and proactive Domestic Couple is sought to oversee the smooth running of a beautiful country residence in the heart of Kent. This is a rare opportunity to join a warm and respectful household, replacing a highly valued couple who are relocating overseas after four successful years in the role.
The property is one of the principals’ three homes and is primarily used as a weekend and holiday residence. The principals are typically in residence every other weekend and for extended periods during the summer, with occasional visits from adult children and guests throughout the year.
Core hours will be Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The family value their privacy and will only ask you to assist on weekends when they have guests.
Job specification:
Housekeeper/Cook
- Full housekeeping of the residence to an exceptionally high standard
- Laundry, ironing and wardrobe care
- Window cleaning and silver polishing
- Flower arranging
- Managing deliveries and household shopping
- Running local errands, including dry cleaning and post office visits
- Preparing guest accommodation before and after visits
- Family-style cooking when required, including traditional home-cooked meals
- Preparing meals for the freezer
- Occasional service during family gatherings and guest visits
- Care and preparation of wood-burning stoves and fireplaces
Gardener/All Rounder
- Overseeing the general maintenance and presentation of the property
- Liaising with contractors and arranging repairs in consultation with the principals
- Gardening support alongside an additional gardener employed three days per week
- Optional management of an established kitchen garden
- Care of orchard produce, including preserving, freezing or distributing fruit
- Basic handyman and maintenance tasks
- Swimming pool, hot tub and pool house maintenance
- Tennis court upkeep
- Pest control management
- Pond and fish care
- Vehicle cleaning and maintenance
- Driving duties for family and guests, including station and airport transfers
Pet Care:
The family have a much-loved Hungarian Vizsla who is very much part of the household. Candidates must be genuine dog lovers and willing to care for him as their own when the family are away. This will include feeding, companionship and occasional walking.
Candidate specification:
- Previous experience working together in a private household
- Positive, can-do attitude with a flexible approach
- High standards and exceptional attention to detail
- Able to work independently and use initiative
- Strong cooking skills for informal family meals
- Competent gardening and property maintenance abilities
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Both candidates should ideally be confident drivers due to the rural location
- Comfortable working around dogs and providing pet care
Accommodation:
You will be provided with a lovely 3 bedroom apartment onsite. A dog will be considered on a case by case basis, unfortunately dependents cannot be accommodated.
